About The Event

Join the Coastlove team and Bahia Honda State Park to restore red mangroves to their historic location along the coastline!

Historically a mangrove forest, wetland, and coastal berm, this area has been degraded by development over the years, and then was further devastated by Hurricanes Irma and Ian. Without healthy vegetation keeping the coastline stable, the soil is slowly eroding and the habitat is deteriorating. By planting mangroves, which have special roots known to grab on to soil and sand, the coastline will be given an opportunity to begin to heal and return to its once thriving state.

Bring the whole family and come listen to a short educational presentation on the importance of mangroves, followed by a planting along the coastline. Once the planting is complete, we will take some time to clean up debris from the surrounding area. We will conclude our day with a light lunch, provided by the Friends of Bahia Honda State Park. Don't miss out on the exciting opportunity to join our community in this initiative!

All supplies including planting tools, reusable bags, gloves, and water will be provided. Be sure to bring your reusable bottle to refill. We will not be handing out bottles of water or cups.

We will be capping our event capacity at 35 participants, so make sure to sign up today to secure your spot!

Please note: We will NOT be meeting at the main entrance for Bahia Honda State Park. We will be meeting at the planting location, which is along a side road towards the north side of the island. More detailed directions will be sent to participants shortly before the event.
